OBJECTIVE: Create a realistic value drawing in pencil showing objects or a scene that represents you. Use a black and white photo, grid, and value finder for reference to make a well blended, high contrast, well balanced composition.
1. Respond to questions exploring your interests.
2. Based on an idea above or discovered when brainstorming, list image(s) you will you print for your drawing.
3. Print one or more 8x10 inch black and white photo to create a scene
4. Grid out your 8x10 photo 1x1 inch and white drawing paper 1x1 inch to transfer outlines of image. Keep imagery proportionate if combining several photos together.
STEP 2 | SKETCH COMPOSITION
5. Draw a thumbnail sketch to plan where you will put the objects. You can create a new background. Remember the RULE OF THIRDS.
STEP 3 | UNDERDRAWING
6. Lightly draw outlines on drawing paper using grid for placement.
STEP 4 | ADD VALUE, BLENDING, + CONTRAST
7. Fill in values, layering with pressure for darker areas in foreground.
8. Blend with a blending stump, erase off highlights, darken shadows.
10. Add detail, texture, and chalk color pencil on focal point to add emphasis if desired.
